Bindaas Review
Fri, Feb 5 2010Prologue:
Manoj, the younger son of Mohanbabu is a born actor and there are no doubts about his acting abilities. He proved himself as an actor in his childhood itself and he has proved his mettle as a hero with his first outing Donga Dongadi. Despite being appreciated as an actor Manoj didn’t get a hit flick till now. He tested his luck with mass films (Sree, Rajubhai) and tried his hand at variety concepts (Nenu Meeku Telusa, Prayanam). Sadly none of these paid off for him.
At this crucial juncture, when the make or break situation aroused Manoj opted for a family, commercial entertainer to register his first hit as a hero. Manoj believed in the talent of Veeru Potla who was a proved writer with successful films like Varsham and Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana under his belt. Veeru has chosen this script to take a leap as a director and thus ‘Bindas’ happened.
Expectations:
Bindas attracted many eyes right on the day of its announcement. The combination of Veeru and Manoj looked promising. The promotion of this film too started long back, which has made sure that people notice this film. Right from the title announcement to audio release Bindas makers did their best to keep the interest factor alive. Music by Bobo Shashi clicked with the music lovers is an added advantage. The songs slowly climbed up the charts helping the film to stay in cine goers mind till the film’s release. The bold statement of refunding the ticket’s worth if audience doesn’t like this film increased the levels on expectation meter.
Story and treatment:
Bindas has nothing new in the plot. We have seen many films with the same theme in the recent past too. But what works for Bindas is the treatment given to it by the writer cum director Veeru Potla. He made sure that the story never dragged. He kept pumping in the comedy in every possible way. Thus Bindas lived up to its title without a single dull moment. First half is dedicated for characters introduction, situational comedy and teasing romance between the lead pair. Interval block is emotional with a powerful action episode that turns the story more interesting. Second half too raced away till the climax with some kickass comedy. Even though the Climax is a routine stuff one doesn’t complaint as the film has already offered the money’s worth.
Actors and Technicians:
Manoj is up to the mark as a Bindas guy who solves his problems intelligently. His dances had that extra energy and his real stunt sequences (without using a dupe) are a treat to watch. Sheena did a neat job for a first timer. Brahmanandam, Sunil, Raghu Babu, Vennela Kishore, MS Narayana shared few laughs while the senior actors Ahuti Prasad, Jayaprakash Reddy, Vijay Kumar, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Bhanu Chander, Telangana Shakuntala etc. did their job pretty well.
Music by Bobo Shashi is fresh and appealing. Cinematography is perfect and editing is right on the mark. Story, Screenplay, Dialogues all handled by the director himself once again proved Veeru Potla’s abilities as a writer. His direction is very good. He has a great command over entertainment and he knows the pulse of the audience very well. The treatment has shades of Ready and Dhee but Veeru managed to pull it off with an interesting twist before the climax. He is certainly the one to watch out for in the future.
Final Say:
Bindas lives up to the title and it is worth a watch!
